Ocean First in Cozumel 2017

Ocean First   Jul 05, 2022

"The Ocean First dive trip to Cozumel in Feb 2017 offered a fun opportunity to complete a number of training dives in tropical water, close to home. The unlimited shore diving at Scuba Club made it easy to conduct these training dives, and the offshore dives were a delight with the amount of sea life we saw, including eels, sea horses, rays, turtles, and large schools of fish.

After completing their Stress and Rescue and Navigation Diver certifications, we saw a number of divers become Master Divers, including Linda R, Kenyon S, Stacie V, and Isabel S. We are so proud of their hard work and are excited to see them continue to go far in their diving career.

We enjoyed great weather for the first three days of two dives per day on the beautiful Palancar Reef. On the fourth day, we took the ferry to Playa Del Carmen. We were extremely lucky to have chosen the perfect day to take the ferry over to the mainland for Cenote diving. The sea was so rough they closed the harbor on Cozumel. The next day the seas were still too rough to go out in the morning, with no way of knowing whether the seas would calm down or not. So some chose to do a bit of sight-seeing around the island and others stood ready for the harbor to open. By 1:30 we were able to get out into the ocean and fit in two dives that afternoon. We did shore dives in front of the hotel each day for fun and training. We even did a Buoyancy Clinic one afternoon and some went for a night dive as well. Carnaval Cozumel 2017 started on Feb 22 so we got to see some of the festivities when we weren't diving.

From the ease of getting there to the quality of diving and the ability to complete a large number of diving certifications, everyone agreed that this was a very valuable trip. Rest assured, we will be back again soon so stay tuned!"
